Spotlight on Addy: Client, Staff: Parent Mentor Program Organizer

POC is grateful for your support. Thanks to you, we provide resources for our clients that create positive impacts in their lives. The challenges clients are facing may seem like small bumps in the road for us, but to our clients, they don't know how to overcome these challenges.
Addy, POC’s Parent Mentor Program Organizer recently shared this story about how our Skyward Bound Mental Health Program helped one of our first-generation college students. READ ON in Addy’s own words:
“I think of Client A, a 20-year-old female student struggling to transition from high school to college.
While many have feelings of excitement, Client A was experiencing high levels of anxiety and depression. Being a first-generation college student, she didn't even know how to enroll.
And, she was embarrassed to ask for help. People around her kept saying, ‘Get over it. Why is this so hard for you?’
She kept all of this to herself because she didn't want to be a burden for her family or challenge her culture’s norm of not discussing mental health issues. Her thoughts focused on her family's financial struggle and leaving home for the first time. Her anxiety led her to quit her job and become unable to connect with peers.
BECAUSE OF POC: Client A received therapy at no cost. She has since gained confidence, has enrolled in school, and started working again.
Because of your support, individuals and families have found a safe space to speak about their mental health without any fear, judgment, or feeling alone.
Your generosity creates a ripple effect helping people feel heard, seen, and supported. The entire staff at POC, along with our clients and community, are extremely grateful for your generosity.
Thank you!” — Addy
